 SUMMARY
A YA novel from USA Today bestselling author Sarina Bowen.
Never ask a question unless you’re sure you want the truth.
I’ve been listening to my father sing for my whole life. I carry him in my pocket on my mp3 player. It’s just that we’ve never met face to face.
My mother would never tell me how I came to be, or why my rock star father and I have never met. I thought it was her only secret. I was wrong.
When she dies, he finally appears. Suddenly I have a first class ticket into my father’s exclusive world. A world I don’t want any part of – not at this cost.
Only three things keep me going: my a cappella singing group, a swoony blue-eyed boy named Jake, and the burning questions in my soul.
There’s a secret shame that comes from being an unwanted child. It drags me down, and puts distance between me and the boy I love.
My father is the only one alive who knows my history. I need the truth, even if it scares me.
My review
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
That was one of the most tormented books I've read. Without necessarily being a tear-jerker it causes and locks a lot of emotions and questions. Any event that involves the protagonist brings with it a huge why? Why she's so unlucky, why this happened to her, why she had to spend this awful moment Why she was not lucky. Why she must not be able to live her own life. Why at every step I take she feels like her fate is throwing on her face life all the sadness ... It's like her life has no color. she feels lost and unwanted ... Sometimes she feels just an accident of fate. because she never knew what it means to enjoy the affection of a family. Despite this, Rachel's determination left me speechless. no matter how often she feels a shadow, she never quit to dream, to hope and to fight for what she wants, or for what she believes in.
The book is also a romance. but the love story between Rachel and Jake leaves a large space in story, ( or is partially eclipsed) by the story between the young girl and her father. Also in this last case the relationship evolve. But there has always been. at least by the girl who has had a relationship with her father, an invisible bond that is perceived from far away, through music. And once it turns into something real, their bond is more intense, is strengthened day after day and feeds their damaged souls not only thanks to the lyrics of a song, but also and above it all by the infinite and unconditional love that binds a daughter to her father .
It was very difficult for me to find the strength and the right words to write a review for this new adult. because nothing seemed at the height of the mastery of this story.
